{"id":107,"date":"2013-09-16T19:00:04","date_gmt":"2013-09-17T02:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tomstolmar.com\/?p=107"},"modified":"2022-11-22T13:17:05","modified_gmt":"2022-11-22T21:17:05","slug":"the-damned-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tomstolmar.com\/?p=107","title":{"rendered":"The Damned"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Damned<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>A quarter-pounder for the Family Guy<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I<\/p>\n<p>This was a period (.) of pedantry.<br \/>\nThis was a period of flippantry<br \/>\nwhich came to be remembered lovingly<br \/>\nby the membered and dis-membered alike.<br \/>\nThey wore post-it notes and khakis, they<br \/>\ndrank Red Dog Pi\u00f1a Coladas of the mind<br \/>\nwith their lights on and their game on<br \/>\nand everything was on! They felt at home<br \/>\nbecause they were, at home!<\/p>\n<p>Evenings, morning and afternoons waxing portentous<br \/>\nfor city blocks turned cell blocks, turned to cinders.<\/p>\n<p>Navigators &amp; Escalades &amp; Cherokees &amp; Hummers<br \/>\nJohn Deere hydraulic hammers hummed, lubed-up<br \/>\nand ready! Locked &amp; loaded, crossing over one after another,<br \/>\nparking and jamming purchasing and partaking of the<br \/>\nfirst steamy-hot penetrations of the slab, Gaea,<br \/>\nthe Mother of All Inner &amp; Outer Everything!<\/p>\n<p>II<\/p>\n<p>They were very fond of saying they<br \/>\nenjoyed the Full Driving Experience!<br \/>\nAnd what they were told never to forget<br \/>\nthey could never quite remember&#8230;<br \/>\nso they lived in the past with extended<br \/>\nwarranties, and cheap credit filled the lands<br \/>\nw\/ hedge funds &amp; tasty cherry-slush!<\/p>\n<p>The lives of the owners were well-insured<br \/>\nand many rules and stipulations were made<br \/>\nfor those who were deemed to need them<br \/>\nby those who didn\u2019t. Some were imprisoned<br \/>\nfor trying to get a piece and whatever<br \/>\nwent around stayed around<br \/>\njust as foul as that!<\/p>\n<p>III<\/p>\n<p>While many were out mining<br \/>\nthe stores, a Zone was created<br \/>\nwhere occasional Stalkers would toss<br \/>\ntheir towels, \u2018trembling in tenderness\u2019.<br \/>\nBut most were busy by day &amp; busy by night<br \/>\ntelling the whole world how busy they were<br \/>\nselling art for art\u2019s sake up and down<br \/>\nthe rivers.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile more &amp; more poems<br \/>\nwere being created that ended with a question<br \/>\nmark? Always, an upward <em>lilting<\/em> intonation?<br \/>\nas if? they weren\u2019t really&#8230; sure?<br \/>\nGradually though, form followed no one,<br \/>\nfeeding mostly upon <em>function<\/em> dictated<br \/>\nby the former which followed itself<br \/>\naround, hopelessly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLoose Weight and Gain Space!\u201d<br \/>\nwent the advertising. \u201cMight Makes Maybe.\u201d<br \/>\nwas the basic ideology, <em>deus ex machina<\/em><br \/>\n\u201cClear and Hold\u201d!<\/p>\n<p>IV<\/p>\n<p>Farting in their hot tubs<br \/>\nthey were promised heaven<br \/>\non the installment plan<br \/>\nwith no exit strategy.<br \/>\nIt all made good sound sense<br \/>\nand sounded good at the time.<br \/>\nIt was, as they came to say,<br \/>\n\u201cA savings celebration for everyone<br \/>\nwho was anyone! A Pay-&amp;-Save<br \/>\nRevolution!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Their marbles were laced<br \/>\nwith magnificent possibilities<br \/>\nand their bumpers plastered<br \/>\nwith a syntax of bathos: \u201cIf you<br \/>\nthink the system is working,\u201d one sucker<br \/>\nstuck, \u201cjust ask someone who isn\u2019t<br \/>\nand still makes more moolah<br \/>\nthan you ever will!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>V<\/p>\n<p>Goodness gracious! said Henny-penny, The markets are falling;<br \/>\nI must go &amp; tell the King! Oo! cried, Cocky-locky, Goosey-poosey and<br \/>\nespecially Foxy-woxy as they went along, higgledy-piggledy,<br \/>\nThe dollar is falling, the dollar is falling down!<\/p>\n<p>And so it went, when<br \/>\nit wasn\u2019t all over the place<br \/>\nit was all over their face,<br \/>\njust as phat &amp; bloody as that!<br \/>\nBecause they were pre-approved<br \/>\nand pre-determined<br \/>\nto get their Burger\u2019s Worth!<\/p>\n<p>Finally the mouses took leave<br \/>\ntheir senses and the screens<br \/>\nall went dim sum!<\/p>\n<p>Lost without their clickers,<br \/>\nthey went roaming the floppy<br \/>\nstreets and subliminal cul-de-sacs<br \/>\nwith unspeakable ennui.<\/p>\n<p>I saw a dove with radioactive<br \/>\nwings and a fish with frog\u2019s legs!<br \/>\nA chicken eating range-fed,<br \/>\noven-roasted tofu buffalo-chips<br \/>\nand an elephant in a duty-free<br \/>\nchina shop buying up ivory stock!<br \/>\nI saw a man eating his own flesh<br \/>\nwith rabid dogs, happy as fleas.<br \/>\nCremation is perfect&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>cremation is perfect, said<br \/>\nthe poet from behind the counter,<br \/>\nFor Thine is the Kingdom and thine<br \/>\nis with, extra cheese, Right?<\/p>\n<p>My bartender came over to<br \/>\ntell me it was last call forever,<br \/>\nhe was leaving and never returning,<br \/>\nnever returning, because&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>This is the way the world ends<br \/>\nThis is the way the world ends<br \/>\nThis is the way the world ends<br \/>\nNot with a bang but a Whopper.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Damned A quarter-pounder for the Family Guy I This was a period (.) of pedantry.
